We will certainly work with hammers and screwdrivers! A chicken coop is too big to build in 3 meetings, but you do use all the skills we'll be learning about in these meetings to build one.

Chickens don't want nests for sleeping, they want to roost up off the ground. A nest is for laying eggs, so a rooster probably won't care. However, it's great that you are thinking about what will make your rooster happy! We'll try to do more with reading plans and blueprints. Especially week 2 when you will be starting to build your own projects!

ReplyDeleteYou need to pick something you would like to build (not a whole chicken coop, or a ceiling fan...!). Everyone will be making something different, we aren't deciding. Maybe pick something you would like to give for a gift? Make something for your family/home? Maybe something for your room? A shelf for books, or things you collect?
DeleteI would like to make A bench. I know it is A little late but my mom and dad can get all the stuff if you cant. I need 6ft of 2x4 for legs and 8ft of 1x4 for wrap and 12ft of 1x4 for seat. Harper
ReplyDeleteHey Harper! Do you have drawings/a plan for your bench? That's where we will start for those who don't have plans. We'll do more accurate drawings than we did for the first thing we made! If you don't have exact plans, we won't need all your lumber this week. Even if you do, we won't need all the lumber this week. If your parents know what wood is what (I assume they do since Dad knew what a speed square was), they can certainly pick up wood. Keep your receipt! If not, I'll be popping in to get wood tonight and probably tomorrow anyway.

ReplyDeleteGreat job everyone last night! Be sure to fill in your record with something you learned (or practiced) last night. Also, for your records, last week's activity cost $1.50 per person. This week, it was a bit different! If you are building the candy machine, it will be $3.00 per person. The others we'll need to see what the materials finally end up being. If you are providing all your own materials, ask a parent to help you guesstimate the costs!
